The Basics of a Christian Marriage Ceremony
Many marriage ceremonies contain Christian traditionsA Christian marriage ceremony is one of the most common kinds of marriage that a couple can be tied through. The ceremonies are very traditional, with a vow being exchanged between a man and woman. If you are planning to be married, chances are legion that the fundamental traditions involved will be Christian in origin. A Christian marriage ceremony begins long before the couple says 'I do.' In order to be wed in numerous churches, you will be asked to attend counseling, so that the minister of the church can appraise and solidify your position in the church. The minister can, at any time, choose not to wed a couple for religious reasons, although this is becoming quite rare. Many churches will not wed a couple unless at least one member of the wedding party is a member of the particular church, although this varies from church to church and denomination to denomination. When you are joined in a Christian marriage, in a church by the leader of that church, the ceremony itself is normally attended by many members of the church. While some churches will do personal, that is, private weddings, many of them are opened to the faithful as a whole. The marriage ceremony, becomes in part, a general religious ceremony, associated with a small sermon regarding marriage and the biblical duties of both man and wife.
There are some aspects of a Christian marriage ritual that differ depending on denomination or type of Christianity. Baptist and Methodist faiths are more casual than Catholic, with Catholic churches following a more strict and longer process of ceremonies. If you want a Christian marriage ceremony, you will need to plan ahead. Churches need a lot of warning to prepare for such a ceremony. Book, at least, several months ahead. Counseling may also add to the length of time, before you can be wed, depending on how your pastor feels about the relationship, and what the couple needs to learn before their mutual commitment. In order to be suitable for a Christian marriage in a church, the couple in question should not live together prior to the wedding ceremony, as this goes against the primary beliefs of the church. Miracles It is my personal view that the reason we call things that we don't understand "miracles" is because we are trying to understand them within a very limited framework. This framework is that of our beliefs which have been based largely on scientific inquiry and also exclusively on the use of our intellect or rational mind. Enthusiam And The Spirit In this article, I would like deal with one specific aspect of attitude, that is, "enthusiasm." To have an enthusiastic attitude about we do is essential. Trailing Clouds of Glory Most of us are familiar with the inner criticism and gnawing self-doubt we hear when we want to take the next step in our work or life. Rather than staying stymied we can observe our thoughts, let them go and return to the truth of who we really are. William Wordsworth reminds us of our one true home: Letting Go of Your Past Once you become saved and born again, the Bible tells us that we have now become new creations in Jesus Christ. All things have been made new. Our slates are now wiped clean and we now have a brand new start in this life if we are willing to properly work with the Lord in allowing Him to raise us up in His grace, knowledge and power. Here To Stay I am disturbed by the tendency of some people to view Christianity as a trend rather than a way of life. Some take it to the next level and try to make it some sort of a secret club. If you doubt me, just look at the reaction to the 2004 election results. It didn't take the media long to start harping on how "Evangelical Christians" turned the tide and were trying to establish their morality through politics. Pretty soon, newspapers and magazines were filled with angry diatribes of how we had no right to push our beliefs on them, and how we are trying to establish a "wacky theocracy." The only thing more disturbing than this are the people that pick and choose popular aspects of the faith that they believe promise a quick, miracle cure for their problems. They will accept good things like peace, grace, and salvation, but ignore the difficult things like patience, obedience, and sacrifice. The first time they have to wait or give up something, they're out of the game. Building The Body of Christ As a walked across the gym floor with perspiration coming from my brow, my wife, Denise said "honey, you're a bodybuilder". I looked at her with amazement was my wife just getting it. I had been building this body for more than twenty years. Then again she said, "You're a bodybuilder", it was then that I got the revelation she was speaking of the body of Christ. She was saying what Paul was inspired to say in Ephesians 4:12 "to prepare God's people for works of service, so the body of Christ may be built up." Since that day neither of our lives will be the same. Anamchara - The Value of Ritual Let me explain my approach to the practice of ritual. For me ritual is an act of presence. It is presenting myself fully in this moment.
